Djed Spence Broken Jaw: Tottenham Face Everton With Mask Plan
Djed Spence broken jaw is the latest hit to Tottenham’s survival push after he was struck in the face by Liam Delap’s elbow in Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea. The Tottenham full-back went down clutching his face but finished the match, and he is expected to be available for the season finale with a protective mask.
Spence and Delap at Stamford Bridge
Spence suffered the injury in the 87th minute after the collision with Delap. Referee Stuart Atwell booked the Chelsea forward with a yellow card.
He later posted about the incident on social media. Spence was a second-half substitute, and the injury came in a game Tottenham lost 2-1.
Tottenham’s Everton Test
Tottenham now head into their final Premier League game of the season at home to Everton with Spence expected to be in the squad in a protective mask. A win will keep Spurs in the Premier League.
A draw is likely to be enough because of Tottenham’s superior goal difference compared with West Ham. Spurs are two points clear of the relegation zone, but a loss to Everton combined with a West Ham win over Leeds at the London Stadium would send them down to the Championship.
Spence has still been one of Tottenham’s busiest players this season, with 43 games in all competitions, even though he has started just one of Spurs’ last six matches. He has also been called up to England’s squad for this summer’s World Cup, which puts the mask plan into sharper focus for a player who is still in the frame on multiple fronts.
