Aaron Ramsey Returns to Wales Training Weeks After Retirement

aaron ramsey was back at the Wales setup this week, wearing training gear at the Football Association of Wales’ Vale of Glamorgan headquarters just weeks after announcing his retirement from playing. The 35-year-old’s appearance points toward the next stage of a career that has already included coaching work and an interim spell in charge at Cardiff.

Ramsey posted a photo from the headquarters while Wales held a development training camp led by Craig Bellamy and his coaching staff. The camp has brought together promising Welsh players largely from the youth age groups through the week, putting the former midfielder back inside the same national setup where he became one of the defining figures of Wales’ modern era.

That setting matters because he is not arriving as a surprise outsider. Ramsey has already completed his UEFA A Licence and has spoken openly about coaching Wales one day, saying in 2024, “Hopefully it is a few years away yet, but it would definitely interest me one day.” He also said, “That would be a very proud moment for me. I’ve done my A Licence and will be starting my Pro Licence soon, and it’s definitely something I’m really interested in.”

Bellamy has been part of that picture too. Last year, he said, “I speak to Aaron quite a lot, I try and involve him a lot in tactically what we look to do,” and added, “He comes down to Dragon Park as well to see me quite a bit, so we go through certain stuff.” Ramsey’s return to the Wales environment this week fits that pattern of regular contact more than a one-off visit.

The move comes after a final season that already hinted at a transition. Ramsey worked within Cardiff’s academy setup before taking interim charge of the club for the final three matches after Omer Riza departed, but he was unable to avoid relegation. His playing career also took him through Cardiff, Arsenal and Juventus before last month’s retirement announcement.

Coaching Path at Cardiff

What he does at Wales next will be watched closely because the route is already visible: academy work, senior caretaker duties and ongoing coaching study. For now, this week’s training-camp appearance is the clearest sign that his post-playing career is moving toward the same game, just from a different role at Vale of Glamorgan.
