Traffic Scotland closes Kessock Bridge in both directions
Traffic Scotland said the kessock bridge on the A9 was closed in both directions at 14:14 on May 22, 2026 because of a police incident. Emergency services were in attendance, and motorists were told to avoid the area.
Inverness and the Black Isle
The bridge links Inverness and the Black Isle, and the closure shut off that section of the A9 to vehicles. Traffic Scotland told drivers to use an alternative route while the incident continued.
Traffic Scotland at 14:14
Traffic Scotland posted: "Kessock Bridge ⛔️CLOSED in both directions due to a police incident ?Emergency services are in attendance Please #UseAltRoute at this time❗️" The message gave drivers the clearest instruction available: stay away from the bridge and take another route.
A9 access and driver advice
The closure left the A9 crossing unavailable in both directions, which affected anyone trying to travel between Inverness and the Black Isle. For motorists already planning that route, the immediate step was to follow the diversion advice and avoid the bridge approach until traffic updates changed.
