Carson Beck Gains Steam in Cardinals QB Debate
Tom Pelissero raised the possibility that beck is Mike LaFleur’s preferred quarterback on the Arizona Cardinals roster right now. The question landed while Jacoby Brissett is still holding out for a new contract and is set to open the season as quarterback one.
Tom Pelissero and Carson Beck
Pelissero used his show yesterday to press the issue directly, asking: "Is this just more “leaks” to the media to try and force Jacoby Brissett’s hand to get into camp and get into the new offense, or is this just a reality that Mike LaFleur’s preferred quarterback on the roster right now is Carson Beck?"
He followed that by asking, "Is LaFleur happy to get Gardner Minshew and Beck most of the reps because those were the quarterbacks “he picked” by process of the he was in the building when they were brought in?" That framing puts Beck at the center of the roster conversation, not as a depth piece but as the player the staff may be sorting out first.
Jacoby Brissett and the holdout
The complication is Brissett. He is still holding out for a new contract, even as the Cardinals work through the quarterback room and try to settle the shape of the offense before the season begins.
The club has already signed its second round draft pick and signed first round pick Jeremiyah Love to his rookie contract, but the quarterback picture remains the piece drawing the most attention. That leaves the Cardinals needing to decide what they have in Beck while Brissett remains out of camp.
Cardinals 2026 quarterback path
The longer view is already part of the discussion. The question is whether Beck could start at quarterback for the Cardinals in 2026 sooner than expected.
That would be a fast turn for a roster still sorting out reps behind Brissett, who is expected to begin the year as quarterback one. For now, the move is less about a depth chart label than about how quickly Beck can close the gap on a veteran who has not signed a new deal.
