Clapham High Street crash kills man in his 70s
clapham High Street stayed closed on Friday after a collision between a pedestrian and a HGV left a man in his 70s dead at the scene. Police were called at 11:03hrs to the road traffic collision on Clapham High Street, SW4, and London Ambulance Service arrived shortly after.

The Metropolitan Police said the man was assessed and treated at the scene by paramedics before being pronounced dead at 11:36hrs. London Ambulance Service said it was called at 11.05am and sent ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer and London’s Air Ambulance to the scene.
“On Friday, 22 May at 11:03hrs, police were called to reports of a road traffic collision between a pedestrian and a HGV on Clapham High Street, SW4,” a Met Police spokesperson said. The force also said, “A man in his 70s was assessed and treated at the scene by paramedics. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, the man was sadly pronounced dead at 11:36hrs.”
London Ambulance Service response
London Ambulance Service said, “We were called at 11.05am today (22 May) to reports of a road traffic collision on Clapham High Street, SW4.” It added, “We sent resources to the scene including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer and dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.” The service also said, “Very sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
After the collision, Clapham High Street remained closed and at least five bus routes were diverted. Police asked witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward, giving CAD2859/22MAY26, and said the investigation was ongoing.
Metropolitan Police appeal
For people trying to get through the area, the immediate issue is the closed high street and the bus diversions already in place. The police appeal means anyone who saw the collision or recorded it on a dash cam can still feed information into the inquiry through 101, while the road remains shut.
