Mets Lean on Juan Soto as Mets Vs Marlins Returns to Miami
The mets vs marlins series resumed in Miami on May 22, with New York carrying the memory of a 4-0 season-ending shutout from the same ballpark. The Mets entered at 22-28, one game ahead of the Marlins, and the trip back put the 2025 finish line back in front of both clubs.
Miami Rematch in May
That final game last season did more than end New York's year. The 4-0 loss kept the Mets out of the postseason, and Miami had already taken seven of the 13 meetings between the teams in 2025. The matchup now opened with both clubs still searching for traction, with the Mets at 22-28 and Miami at 22-29.
The Mets also arrived after splitting a four-game set in Washington, D.C., against the Nationals. They won 16-7 on Monday and 2-1 on Thursday, then dropped games by 9-6 and 8-4 scores in between. That stretch showed the offense can pile up runs, but it also left the record almost unchanged.
Juan Soto Keeps Driving
Juan Soto has been the clearest bat to carry over from that Washington series. He went 6-for-16 against the Nationals and hit three home runs there, extending a power run that has reached five home runs in his last eight games dating back to May 14.
Bo Bichette provided the biggest burst in the same series. He entered Monday with two home runs on the season, then hit three in four games, went 7-for-18, drove in nine of the team's 28 runs and scored five times. New York needed that kind of output to keep pace in a series that featured a 10-run twelfth inning on Monday.
Carson Benge's May Surge
Carson Benge added another layer to the Mets' recent attack. He led the club with eight hits against Washington and carried a.351/.400/.459 line in May, along with an.859 OPS. That marked a sharp turn from April, when he finished at.189/.247/.289 with a.525 OPS.
For New York, the question in Miami is less about one hot series than whether the offense can travel with the same production to the same park that ended its season a year ago. The Mets do not have to solve everything in one night, but they do have to turn the memory of that 4-0 shutout into something different before the 2026 standings slip away from them again.
