Matt Reeves Brings The Batman 2 to Liverpool After 2027 Delay

The Batman 2 began filming in Liverpool, England, on Thursday 21 May. The move gives the sequel its first clear production milestone after two release-date delays, with the film now set for Friday 1st October 2027.

Set photos and videos showed filming taking place in Liverpool, and fans spotted a stunt double for Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne at the location. They also saw a damaged and snow-covered Gotham City Police Department vehicle, which is the clearest sign yet that Reeves is back in Gotham mode rather than still assembling the project.

Matt Reeves used X last week to add Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, and Sebastian Koch to the cast. He gave no role details, but he did pair Johansson’s name with the caption, “Next exit, Gotham… Welcome.”

Reeves also wrote, “In a Gotham state of mind… Welcome.” when introducing Sebastian Stan. The casting rollout matters because it turned a slow-moving sequel into something with visible motion before cameras were even publicly seen rolling in Liverpool.

The Batman Part II was first scheduled for October 2025, then moved to October 2026, and then delayed again by 12 months to October 2027. That leaves the sequel arriving five years after 2022’s The Batman, with the gap now stretching long enough to make the start of filming more significant than any teaser or casting rumor.

For viewers, the practical takeaway is simple: production is no longer hypothetical. The film is now in active shooting, the release date has settled on Friday 1st October 2027, and the next real milestone will come from what Reeves chooses to show rather than what he has already posted.
