Ross Lyon Guides Fremantle to Club-Record 10th Straight Win

ross lyon watched Fremantle keep rolling on Friday night, beating St Kilda by 30 points for a club-record 10th consecutive win. The Dockers moved to 10-1 and stayed clear in the top two, even without Caleb Serong, Hayden Young and Alex Pearce.

Fremantle’s six-goal finish

The game tightened before Fremantle finished with a six-goal burst in the final quarter and pushed the margin out to 30 points. That late surge turned a competitive night into another result that extended the club’s longest winning run.

Serong missed the match with a calf injury, while Young and Pearce were sidelined because of concussion and knee issues. Fremantle still found enough scoring and structure to separate from St Kilda when the match was there to be won.

Longmuir backs the system

Justin Longmuir said the Dockers’ system holds up as well as their talent and that players can be plugged in when needed. “I think we get talked about a lot [for our] players, but I think it franks that our system stands up as well, and we can just plug players in,” he said on Friday night after the win.

He added: “Clearly talent plays a part in that, but I think our system needs a little bit of credit as well. Everyone talks about talent when it comes to us and us winning games, but I think system plays a little part in that as well.”

North Melbourne and Brisbane

Serong is expected back the following week against North Melbourne if he recovers as planned. Young and Pearce are on track to play at the Gabba against Brisbane next week, which gives Fremantle a path back toward full strength after a win that still moved them to 10-1.

That is the part of this result that matters most for Fremantle: the record came with three important players missing, but the margin still grew in the last quarter and the ladder position did not budge. The Dockers kept their place in the top two and left Friday night with another number attached to the season — 10 straight.
