Teagan Kavan Leads Texas Softball Past Baylor 7-0 Into Super Regional
texas softball did the job Sunday afternoon at McCombs Field, beating Baylor 7-0 to move on to its seventh consecutive NCAA Super Regional. Teagan Kavan handled the circle from start to finish, and Texas kept its postseason run intact with a third straight shutout-type result in the bracket.
Kavan Owns The Circle
Kavan went the distance and allowed three hits with five strikeouts and no walks. The junior right-hander finished the regional final with a three-hit shutout and gave Texas the cleanest possible path through a game that decided the Austin Regional.
That outing gave her back-to-back shutouts and brought her total to five complete game shutouts this season. Texas never had to reach outside its starter to close the door, and Baylor never found a long rally against a pitcher who worked with control and finish all afternoon.
Stewart And Henry Power Texas
Katie Stewart supplied most of the damage at the plate, hitting two home runs and driving in three runs. The junior first baseman now has a program-record 27 home runs this season, and Texas used her power to build separation quickly.
Kayden Henry added a 3-for-5 day with a solo home run and two RBI, while Reese Atwood hit her 18th home run of the season. Texas finished with four home runs against Baylor, a total that matched the run support needed to keep the regional final out of reach.
Mike White Reaches 16
The win lifted Texas to 45-10 overall and 6-0 in the postseason. It also extended the Longhorns’ win streak to seven games and their NCAA Regional winning streak to 13 straight games, while the program improved to 22-3 in regional games under head coach Mike White.
White’s streak of 16 consecutive NCAA Super Regional appearances as a head coach ties Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso for the longest run by a head coach in NCAA history. Texas will host Arizona State at McCombs Field in the Austin Super Regional later this week, with the bracket now narrowed and the pressure shifted to another home-field test.
