Warriors Close to Re-Signing Te Maire Martin After Boyd Injury

te maire martin is close to re-signing with the Warriors after Tanah Boyd hobbled off in the seventh minute of Sunday’s Magic Round win over Brisbane and later scanned with an ACL injury in Round 11. Boyd is expected to miss 9-12 months, which ends his 2026 season and pushes his return toward Round 1 2027.

Boyd’s ACL injury

The setback hit in a key spot. Boyd had become the Warriors’ first-choice No.7 after overtaking Luke Metcalf, and the club had been on the verge of extending him for a further three seasons before the injury changed the picture.

Warriors CEO Cameron George said Boyd “will be around for a while” and added that the club has been working on extensions for Chanel Harris-Tavita and Martin. “We’ve been having those discussions over the last week or so,” George said, before adding, “I’m hoping that we’ll have very good news in the next few days or this week.”

Martin’s Broncos return

Martin’s case strengthened against Brisbane. It was his first NRL game of the season, and he produced a try, two try assists, one line break and 28 tackles. The performance landed at the right time for a side that suddenly needed stability in the halves.

Andrew Webster kept Martin and Harris-Tavita in the Round 12 side to face the Dragons, while Metcalf was left out. Metcalf has agreed to join the Dragons on a three-year deal from 2027, and he missed several Warriors training sessions after being given permission by the club to sort out his future with them.

Warriors’ halves picture

Martin and Harris-Tavita are due to become free agents at the end of 2026, so the club’s next move reaches beyond this season. Boyd’s injury gives the Warriors a clearer reason to lock in the pairing already in front of Webster, while also leaving the 2027 picture shaped by Metcalf’s move away.

For now, the Warriors head to Kogarah on Saturday with Martin’s spot strengthened, Harris-Tavita still in the frame, and the club’s halves plans moving faster than they were only a week ago.
