Kilkenny Face Dublin at Parnell Park in Rte Sport
rte sport Kilkenny need something against Dublin on Sunday at Parnell Park or their Leinster season could end at the first hurdle. Round 5 leaves six spots still to be filled across the Munster and Leinster finals and the quarterfinal stage of the All Ireland hurling championship.
Kilkenny at Parnell Park
Kilkenny and Dublin meet at Parnell Park on Sunday at 2 p.m., with Dublin leading the Leinster group and Galway sitting second. The top two teams in each group go into the finals, while the third-placed teams qualify for the quarterfinals, so Kilkenny need a result to stay in the frame for the rest of the season’s action.
Dublin’s position at the top makes this a direct pressure game for Kilkenny rather than a routine provincial outing. If Kilkenny fall short, they risk being edged out before the provincial finals at Croke Park on Saturday, June 6.
Leinster Places Still Live
Galway travel to play Wexford in the other Leinster fixture of note, with Galway in second place and Wexford already eliminated. Offaly, who are fourth in Leinster, take on Kildare, who are already relegated. Those pairings leave the Leinster table tight at the top and stripped of margin lower down.
The structure is simple and unforgiving. First and second move on to the provincial final, third goes to the quarterfinals, and anyone outside that line is done for the championship route.
Munster Pressure Points
Munster also has clear stakes on Sunday. Cork host Clare at 4 p.m., while Limerick meet Tipperary in the other game. Clare are guaranteed a place in the quarterfinals, Tipperary are already eliminated as All Ireland champions, and Limerick are looking good for a final date with Cork.
That leaves the province’s last group games to settle the shape of the bracket before the Munster final at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday, June 7. The runners-up from each province then drop into the quarterfinals on the weekend of June 20/21, with the two winners there moving on to meet the provincial final winners over the weekend of July 4/5.
