Luis Gurule Replaces Jesús Aguilar for UFC Macau Bout — Ultimate Fighting Championship
Louis Gurule? no. Luis Gurule stepped into the ultimate fighting championship Macau card after Jesús Aguilar withdrew injured, and he will face Rei Tsuruya on May 30 in a bantamweight bout. Gurule arrives on a quick turnaround after winning by unanimous decision last weekend in Las Vegas, a result that snapped a three-fight losing skid.
Tsuruya’s New Opponent
Tsuruya was originally booked against Aguilar, but the injury changed the matchup before fight week closed in. Gurule now gets the assignment after beating Daniel Bárez, and the short-notice move gives him a second UFC appearance in less than two weeks.
That is the sharp edge of this booking. Gurule had been fighting to stop the slide that followed losses to Ode’ Osbourne in his UFC debut last year in April, then to Jesus Aguilar and Alden Coria before last weekend’s win. The Las Vegas result reset his run long enough to put him back on a UFC card almost immediately.
Gurule’s Fast Turnaround
His path back to this spot started in October 2024, when the UFC signed him after he beat Nick Piccininni on Dana White’s Contender Series. He had already taken his first professional loss to Osbourne in his debut, so the Bárez win mattered as a break from the losses that had followed.
Now he moves into a bantamweight fight with Tsuruya, who has already shown he can handle the jump to UFC competition. Tsuruya won his debut against Carlos Hernandez by unanimous decision on June 29, 2024, then lost to Joshua Van by unanimous decision in his most recent bout.
Tsuruya After Road To UFC
Tsuruya came into the UFC after winning the Road to UFC tournament, and his schedule has already been affected once before. He was supposed to return in August last year against Nyamjargal Tumendemberel but pulled out because of an injury, so this new date gives him another chance to get a full camp and another result on the books.
For Gurule, the change turns last weekend’s win into immediate momentum. For Tsuruya, it replaces one opponent with another who just snapped a three-fight losing skid, and the May 30 date in Macau now carries a different style of risk than the one he signed up for.
