Jalen Morton Set to Start at Quarterback for Columbus

jalen morton is set to start at quarterback for the Columbus Aviators this week, giving the team a new look after it was mathematically eliminated from playoff contention last weekend with a loss to Birmingham. Columbus will use its final two home games to evaluate Morton and other players for the future in its inaugural season.

Ted Ginn Jr. Turns to Morton

Head Coach Ted Ginn Jr. is making the switch now. Morton said, "I know my path to get back to the NFL. You have to go through this league and show out in this league."

That puts the spotlight on a quarterback who played college football at Prairie View A&M, went undrafted in 2020 and earned training camp stints with the Green Bay Packers and the Indianapolis Colts. The Aviators are not chasing a playoff spot anymore, so the job now is evaluation as much as it is production.

Columbus Finishes at Home

Columbus hosts the Birmingham Stallions on Saturday, and that game will air on ABC 6. The Aviators then close the season the following Sunday at home against Louisville on FOX 28.

Ginn said, "You play for the name on the back of the jersey" and, "You still want to be a part of the Aviator culture. Ohio and Columbus are still behind us." Those words fit the final stretch cleanly: the team has two home dates left, Morton gets the start, and the rest of the roster gets one more run to show what belongs in the next version of the Aviators.
