Manchester United Stall Over Sandro Tonali Man Utd Interest as Price Rises
Manchester United’s sandro tonali man utd interest has hit a price wall. Michael Carrick’s preferred midfield signing is now viewed as really expensive, and the club are weighing whether the move makes sense after doubts grew over the cost.
Tonali Price Warning
Sandro Tonali is the player Carrick wants, but United now believe the Newcastle midfielder is too expensive at the figures being discussed. Fabrizio Romano said United appreciate Tonali and that he is playing at Newcastle, but also said the price remains the problem.
Romano said: “Manchester United have been on a mission in the recent days in Italy to discuss about several topics”. He also said: “For example, a player they really appreciate is Sandro Tonali and his agents are based in Italy. Tonali is obviously playing at Newcastle.”
The numbers explain the hesitation. Di Marzio claimed United were confident of signing Tonali for €100m, or £86m, while The Chronicle claimed Newcastle would demand no less than €115m, or £100m. The Athletic previously noted that Tonali’s salary demands would be sky high.
United’s Midfield Alternative
That gap has left United reconsidering how far to push. The club are having doubts about whether a Tonali deal would be value for money, and the growing cost has slowed momentum around one of their preferred targets.
United have also entered advanced discussions with Atalanta for Ederson, a midfielder with three caps for Brazil. They reportedly made a verbal offer of €45m, and the move has gained traction because Ederson previously signalled earlier in May that he would be willing to move to Manchester United.
Romano said Ederson has given United “total priority”, even as another as yet unnamed club tries to sign him. That leaves United with a clear choice in midfield: keep pressing on a deal for a player they like but now see as really expensive, or move faster on a cheaper alternative already in advanced talks.
