Rosenqvist Says Stella Made His 2026 Indy 500 Most Emotional

Felix Rosenqvist says rosenqvist is arriving at the 2026 Indianapolis 500 with a different frame of mind after the May 4 birth of his daughter Stella. The 34-year-old Swede called it the most emotional race of his career as he prepares for his eighth start at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Stella Changes Rosenqvist’s Lens

Fatherhood has already altered how he talks about the month of May. Rosenqvist said the birth gave him “a sense of purpose and perspective,” and added, “Everything else kind of pales in comparison for sure.”

He expanded on that feeling at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, saying, “Even when I was there for the birth, it’s just triggering emotions that you didn’t know you had. It definitely gives you perspective in life.”

That shift came just three weeks before race day. Stella was born at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital outside Indianapolis, and Rosenqvist and his wife Emille announced the birth in a joint Instagram post.

Indy 500 Pressure And Perspective

The timing lands on top of a career that has already given him both speed and frustration at Indianapolis. Rosenqvist finished fourth in 2022 and 2025, crashed out while running in contention in 2023, and lost a strong 2024 run to mechanical failure.

He also posted the fastest single lap of the entire Month of May last year at 234.176 mph, and he topped Fast Friday speed charts alongside Scott McLaughlin in May. Sunday will be his eighth Indianapolis 500 start.

Rosenqvist said in a Felix Racing race preview that “The Indy 500 is such a special race” and that he believes it is one of Meyer Shank Racing’s strongest events on the calendar. He added, “I now genuinely think this is one of our strongest races on the calendar. I feel like I’ve got the experience, the knowledge and everything in place.”

Helio Castroneves On Fatherhood

Helio Castroneves offered his own take on the learning curve that comes with being a new parent. “The first nine months, forget about it. You don’t even exist,” he said, before adding, “But after that, you’re going to fall in love. It is the best feeling in the world. It’s not like when you win a race.”

Rosenqvist said fatherhood has also changed how he connects with the people around him. “There’s like this club that you can only access once you have a child,” he said. “You talk about things you haven’t talked to these guys about before. But it’s cool. Everyone’s been very supportive.”

He said some past Indianapolis 500s already feel distant, but this one will not. “I have 500s that I’ve probably completely put behind me for different reasons,” Rosenqvist said. “But this one will definitely stay with me forever.”
