South Gate Fire Displaces Industrial Avenue Crews in Second Alarm Blaze

Los Angeles Fire Department crews were battling a south gate fire Sunday afternoon after flames broke out at a commercial building in the 11800 block of Industrial Avenue. The fire was reported just after 2:10 p.m., and crews raised it to a Second Alarm as it continued to tear through the property.

The building was described as a 75-foot by 75-foot commercial structure. Aerial footage showed a large plume of black smoke over the site, and firefighters used extended ladders to knock down flames from above.

The property appeared to be SSSJJ Auto Service, where large flames had engulfed what appeared to be salvaged automotive parts. That location sat close to other businesses and dozens of homes, leaving nearby property owners with a direct view of the fire’s spread.

Crews had not said whether any nearby structures were damaged. The cause of the fire remained under investigation, and no injuries had been reported at the time of the update.

For people who work or live along Industrial Avenue, the immediate concern was the same one firefighters were already facing on the ground: whether the flames stayed inside the property line or moved into the neighboring block. The response level, the smoke column and the building’s tight location made that the issue to watch as crews kept dousing the fire from above.
