Brandon Young Starts Orioles Game Doubleheader After Rainout
The orioles game at Camden Yards shifted into a Sunday doubleheader after Saturday’s matchup with the Tigers was postponed because of rain. The two-game day starts at 12:35 ET and closes at 6:35 ET, with Brandon Young set for the opener.
Young Opens Against Valdez
Young is lined up to face Framber Valdez in Game 1. The Orioles right-hander enters at 3-1 with a 4.25 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 29.2 innings, while Valdez is 2-3 with a 4.58 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 55 innings.
Friday night gave Baltimore a needed base to work from. The Orioles beat Detroit 7-4, with Jackson Holliday going 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk, Gunnar Henderson finishing 3-for-5, and Adley Rutschman adding two hits. Leody Taveras also had two hits for the Orioles.
Rogers Takes Game 2
Trevor Rogers gets the ball for Game 2 as Baltimore tries to handle both ends of a day that arrived because of the rainout. Rogers has struggled lately, going 1-5 with an 8.42 ERA in his last seven starts, so the second game asks a lot of an arm that has not settled in.
Detroit had not announced its Game 2 starter as of 12:05, with Troy Melton the best guess. Melton is 25 and posted a 3-2 record with a 2.76 ERA in sixteen games last year, including four starts.
Camden Yards Schedule Shift
The postponement turns Sunday into more than a makeup date. It also opens a 10-game homestand for the Orioles, who now have to work through two scheduled starts in one day before the series moves on.
That leaves Baltimore with a clear early-season test on the mound and at the plate, starting with Young in Game 1 and Rogers in Game 2. Detroit’s starter for the nightcap will shape how the second half of the doubleheader plays, but Baltimore already knows it has to manage a full day at Camden Yards.
