Kevin Gausman Gets Wish as Blue Jays Open Roof — Marlins Vs Blue Jays

The Blue Jays opened the Rogers Centre roof for the first time in 2026 on Monday night, and marlins vs blue jays got the season’s first open-air look at the downtown dome. Kevin Gausman had already pushed the issue earlier in the day, and the roof stayed open for the first of three games against Miami.

Gausman posted on X Monday afternoon, saying, “If the roof is closed tonight we riot.” The Blue Jays official account answered, “Have some good news for you Gausy,” and the decision followed sunny skies in Toronto with afternoon temperatures expected to hit 18C.

The timing lined up with the weather. Temperatures were forecast to fall to 12C after sunset under mainly clear skies, but the roof opening was still the easy call for team and stadium officials before first pitch against the Marlins.

Thousands of fans were already lined up outside the dome early Monday afternoon for a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. bobblehead giveaway, so the open roof added another visible change to a night that already had a crowd waiting before the gates opened. Jays fans also got the first of three home dates against Miami with more open air still available for the rest of the series.

Rogers Centre Timing

This opening came 10 days later than last season, when the roof first opened on May 15 against the Tampa Bay Rays. The latest start since 2019, when June 6 was the first day the roof opened, shows how much the schedule and weather still control when the dome goes fully open.

The roof opening at Rogers Centre has also swung widely in recent years. An April 12 opening in an unseasonably warm early spring was the earliest in the stadium’s history since it debuted in 1989, while the July 30, 2021 opening was delayed because of COVID-19.

Three Games Against Miami

The rest of the homestand keeps the roof decision in play. Similar temperatures were expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Wednesday’s game was scheduled as a 1:07 p.m. matinee, giving Toronto another chance to play in open air before the Marlins leave town.

For fans at Rogers Centre, the practical change is simple: the first game of the homestand opened with the roof back for the first time this season, and the next two games could offer the same setup if the weather holds. That is the part of the night the crowd could feel immediately, long before the standings or season totals matter.
