Portland Fire Vs Liberty Set Third Meeting In 14 Days
Portland Fire vs Liberty lands Monday night in Brooklyn with both teams sitting at 3-3, and it is the third time they will play in 14 days. It is also the final meeting between them this season, with the matchup available on Peacock and NBCSN.
Brooklyn Rematch For 3-3 Teams
The Fire already own one of the league’s early head-to-head wins, beating New York on May 12 for their first victory as a franchise. Portland has also handled pressure games well, taking tight wins over the Liberty, 98-96, and the Connecticut Sun, 83-82.
That record sits beside a wider split in Portland’s results. All three of the Fire’s losses have come by at least 15 points, while their latest win was a 99-80 result over the Toronto Tempo on Saturday after a 90-73 loss to the Indiana Fever on Wednesday.
Alex Sarama And Portland’s Crash Rate
Alex Sarama said the Fire needed to come up with more offensively after Portland tied a season low with three offensive rebounds against Indiana. “I was more concerned that we’re not getting more offensively, especially with all the crashing that we’re trying to emphasize as a group,” he said.
He added: “We’ve really got to come up with more because the last two games, it’s been improving the crash rate and what we’re getting. And tonight we only came up with three.”
Liberty’s Home Stretch Pressure
New York enters the game after a 91-76 home loss to the Dallas Wings on Sunday, the third game of a seven-game homestand. The Liberty were preseason favorites to win the championship, but they have played to a.500 record so far.
Sabrina Ionescu returned from an injured left foot in that loss, scoring 11 points on 4-for-15 shooting and leading New York with seven assists. Satou Sabally also scored 20 points after missing the first four games following her offseason free-agent move to the Liberty.
For viewers, Peacock will stream nationally televised WNBA regular-season games across NBC and Peacock exclusives, and it will carry 22 national WNBA games per season shared across the two platforms. The Fire and Liberty now finish their season series with one more game, and both teams enter it needing a cleaner result than they got in their most recent losses.
