West Yorkshire Police response
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "At 3.18pm yesterday (25 May) police were called to Leadbeater Dam on Lumb Lamb, Halifax to reports a teenage boy was in difficulty in the water." The force added: "The body of a 13-year-old boy was pulled from the water. He was taken to hospital and was sadly pronounced dead."
Police said: "Enquiries are ongoing by Calderdale CID, however there aren’t believed to be any suspicious circumstances." That leaves investigators with the task of tracing exactly how the boy got into difficulty at the reservoir and how the emergency response unfolded.
Leadbeater Dam, Lumb Lamb
Leadbeater Dam is described as a small Halifax reservoir that many consider a local beauty spot, and the incident prompted a significant emergency response with multiple services attending the scene. The death happened on a scorching hot day in West Yorkshire, when the reservoir was being treated as a place people visit for the setting as well as the water.
For people who were at the reservoir or nearby on May 25, the police inquiry now focuses on what happened before the boy was pulled from the water and taken to hospital. West Yorkshire Police has said Calderdale CID is carrying out the enquiries while officers have already ruled out suspicious circumstances.
