Max Beattie Joins Hawthorn With Pick 12 in 2026 Draft

Max Beattie is a Hawthorn player after the club used Pick 12 in the 2026 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft on the 22-year-old from Woodville-West Torrens. The half-forward and midfielder arrives after a season that produced 12 goals in seven SANFL appearances and a place in the SANFL State Team twice.

Hawthorn’s Pick 12 Move

Hawthorn took Beattie at Pick 12, adding a 174cm recruit who has split his time between half-forward and midfield roles. His selection gives the club a mid-season list change built around output rather than projection, with his form at Woodville-West Torrens doing the heavy lifting.

That production has been consistent across several parts of the ground. He averaged 22.9 disposals at 89 per cent efficiency, along with 5.1 marks and 4.6 tackles per match, while also showing enough scoreboard threat to kick 12 goals from seven appearances.

Woodville-West Torrens Returns

Beattie’s season has also included a couple of standout representative days. He played for the SANFL State Team twice this year, and in his first game against the VFL State Team he recorded 13 disposals, six tackles and a goal.

Earlier this year, he reached his 50th SANFL match and turned it into one of his biggest stat lines yet: five goals, 30 disposals, eight marks, six inside 50s and four clearances. That type of game fits the profile Hawthorn has added — a player who has shown he can influence a match in more than one phase.

Beattie’s SANFL Profile

The selection also reflects how quickly his game has broadened since he arrived in the SANFL. Beattie is in his fourth season with Woodville-West Torrens, and his 2025 work off half-back added another layer to a profile that had already included his 2022 Talent League run with the Murray Bushrangers.

For Hawthorn, the deal is straightforward: a mid-season pick brought in a 22-year-old with recent production, state-level exposure and a season built on clean ball use. For Beattie, Pick 12 turns a strong SANFL year into an AFL list spot, and the next step is carrying those numbers into Hawthorn’s system.
