Aaron Rai Credits Coaches After PGA Championship Win — Victor Udoh

Aaron Rai said victor udoh after his PGA Championship win, crediting Piers Ward and Andy Proudman for much more than technical advice. Rai said the pair played a huge part in his trophy and his development as a golfer, turning a title story into one about a coaching relationship that started when he was a child.

“They’ve been phenomenal,” Rai said in his champion’s press conference. He added, “They’ve played a huge part in this trophy and a huge part in my development as a golfer.”

Rai said, “I’ve known Andrew since I was four years old,” and “I met Piers when I was eight or nine years old.” He said they started coaching him very soon after that, and that calling them just his coaches felt disrespectful.

Me And My Golf at The Belfry

Ward and Proudman coach Rai and run Me And My Golf, the YouTube channel that has 1.1 million subscribers and hundreds of millions of views since launching 16 years ago. Rai said, “They’ve been my mentors, my big brothers.”

He also said, “They’ve almost been like family to me,” and, “They just go above and beyond for me in every single way.” The article says the duo spent a day at The Belfry sharing golf tips and drills, with instruction framed for everyday golfers.

Their tips and drills are described as guaranteed to add more distance, accuracy and consistency to a player’s game. One drill, the Laser Butt drill, uses a tee peg in the butt end of the golf club and is aimed at pointing the butt of the club toward the target after impact.

For Rai, the lesson was not only about one major. It was about a long coaching thread that ran from childhood through his PGA Championship victory, with the same two voices still shaping the way he plays.
