Nylander Calls Leafs Draft Lottery Win Insane — Nylander Knies Draft Lottery Reaction

William Nylander’s nylander knies draft lottery reaction started with disbelief and ended with a hard reset on what the Maple Leafs can build next. He called Toronto’s NHL draft lottery win “insane” on a new YouTube video posted Monday, after he and Matthew Knies watched the news together at a Marlies playoff game.

Nylander was blunt about the moment. “That’s insane,” he said, before adding, “Are you (bleeped out) kidding me” as the win sank in during the 10 minute video.

Knies Watches The Lottery

Knies was the first person beside him when the result came in. He initially thought the Leafs were getting the second pick, and neither player was sure the news was real until Knies held up his phone to check it.

That reaction made the clip more than a quick social post. It showed two current Leafs processing a draft-lottery win that could shape the organization’s summer, with one of them reacting in real time before the numbers were fully clear.

Nylander On Sundin

Nylander also used the video to talk about Mats Sundin, who represented the Leafs at the draft lottery. “Mats coming in, he knows what it’s all about to play in Toronto,” Nylander said. He added, “Being such a leader for this team, an amazing captain here. He will bring that to the table and help our club a lot.”

He went further. “Every time I see him, we talk. I’m excited to see him in this kind of aspect, when he’s a big part of our organization and help get us to where we want to be.”

Toronto, Training, And Summer

The same video was Nylander’s first since prior to the Olympics, and it mixed the lottery reaction with the rest of his offseason. He said he went to Montreal for Formula 1’s Canadian Grand Prix last weekend and plans to travel to France and Sweden this summer.

There was a practical reason for that schedule. Nylander said he was injured last summer and unable to train properly to prepare for last season, then added, “For me it will be a really good thing to be able to get a longer summer for more complete training to be ready for next season.”

He said time away helps him reset, but Toronto brings the focus back fast. “When I’m in Toronto, I’m fully focused on wanting to play the best hockey that I can,” he said. “It’s nice to get away and take your mind some place else. At the same time, when you come (back to Toronto) you are guns ablazing, ready to go for the season.”

Nylander said he has even been following the playoffs while off the ice. “I usually never watch hockey when I’m at home. But I’ve been watching the playoffs,” he said. “Just itching to get back out there.” That line fits the mood of the video: the lottery win gave the Leafs a bigger summer storyline, and Nylander made clear he intends to return ready for next season.
