A vat of chemical treatment product imploded at the plant, leaving multiple people with chemical burns and other injuries. The injured were taken to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview and PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver.

Fire crews and a Hazardous Materials Team remained on scene working with Nippon Dynawave employees to mitigate the product and container involved. Officials said there was no threat to the city or the surrounding area.

The same location drew emergency crews on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, when a massive fire broke out and piles of wood burned for days. Tuesday morning’s implosion adds a second industrial emergency at the site, with the cause still not determined and the extent and number of injuries still not released.

For anyone near the facility, the immediate step was to stay clear of the Industrial Way and Highway 432 area while crews worked the scene. The unresolved question is how the vat failed and what condition the injured people were in after reaching the two hospitals.
