John Legend rescues Chrissy Teigen from May 25 AMAs dress snag

Teigen wore a beaded, strapless orange gown from Raisa Vanessa. Legend arrived in a khaki Dries Van Noten suit, then shifted from guest to helper when the dress caught as Teigen shuffled over to him. The quick fix kept the incident from turning into a larger wardrobe problem and left only a few beads as evidence of the mishap.

The pair have been in the public eye together since 2006, when they met while shooting his video for Stereo, and they married in 2013. Nearly 13 years after that wedding, the red carpet still put their chemistry on display in a more practical form than any award-show pose.

Legend later stayed onstage duties as well, presenting the International Artist Award of Excellence to Colombian singer Karol G. That sequence made the AMAs a clean evening for him: one rescue on the carpet, one award presentation inside, no lingering damage to the dress in between.

Legend’s 2025 comments on the IRL podcast with Angie Martinez fit the scene neatly. He said, “I think you have to be fortunate enough to fall in love and marry someone that you really are like supposed to be with, Legend told host Angie Martinez. ”So, choose well.” He added, “And I feel like we really chose well. We have great chemistry, and it’s not just physical. It started out as physical, but we really vibe well together. We respect each other, love each other, support each other, and have each other’s back, and we like hanging out with each other.”
