Taylor Swift Draws Bmi Shutout at 2026 AMAs With Eight Nominations

Taylor Swift left the 2026 American Music Awards with bmi still on her side in history, but not on Monday night in Las Vegas. She led all artists with eight nominations at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and went home without a win.

MGM Grand Garden Arena

The ceremony took place on Monday, May 25, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and it aired on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.

Swift has won 40 American Music Awards, more than anyone else in the show's history, so an eight-nomination shutout stood out even before the final trophy was handed out.

Shakira and Tyla

Shakira won tour of the year after beating Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar/SZA, Lady Gaga and Oasis, while Tyla took social song of the year for “CHANEL” over Disco Lines & Tinashe, Pink Pantheress, Role Model and Zara Larsson.

Those wins mattered because they showed where the evening's momentum went once the top nominee missed out. Sam Barber won breakthrough country artist, Morgan Wallen won best male country artist for the second time in three years, and KATSEYE won new artist of the year.

AMAs categories

This year's show spread awards across pop/rock, soul/R&B, country, hip-hop, Latin, rock/alternative, dance/electronic, K-Pop, Afrobeats and Americana/folk, a wider field than the original three genre categories first presented in February 1974.

The immediate question for Swift watchers is not whether she remains central to the AMAs story. It is whether eight nominations can keep translating into wins when the vote splits across a much broader field.
