Toyota Tundra Recall Hits 43,566 Trucks Over Engine Defect
Toyota Tundra recall coverage now includes about 43,566 model year 2024 pickup trucks after debris left from manufacturing could contaminate the engine and trigger a sudden stall. Toyota says owners of affected trucks will receive notification letters by July 6, with repairs offered free once the fix is finalized.
Tundra Recall 26V320
The recall is listed as NHTSA recall number 26V320. NHTSA said debris inside the engine could cause the main bearing to fail, leading to engine knocking, rough running, stalling, or a failure to start altogether.
A stall can bring a sudden loss of drive power. NHTSA said that loss of power could raise crash risk, especially at higher speeds, which makes the defect more serious than a simple no-start problem for drivers already on the road.
Toyota Engine Debris Concern
The Tundra action expands on two earlier recalls tied to similar engine contamination concerns. Those earlier recalls came in May 2024 and November 2025 and involved certain 2022 through 2024 Lexus LX and Toyota Tundra models, along with some 2024 Lexus GX vehicles.
Toyota has also issued other large recalls in recent months, including more than 550,000 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid vehicles in March over a seat-back locking issue and roughly 141,000 Prius and Prius Prime vehicles earlier this year over rear doors that could unexpectedly open while the vehicle was moving.
July 6 Owner Letters
NHTSA's recall report did not immediately list any crashes, injuries, or deaths tied to the Tundra issue. For owners, the immediate step is to wait for the July 6 letters and then schedule the free repair once Toyota publishes the remedy, especially if the truck has shown knocking, rough running, or starting trouble.
That leaves a narrow but practical timeline: owners are already in the recall population, and the fix comes only after Toyota finalizes it. Until then, the notice letter is the key document that tells drivers whether their truck is in the group and how the repair will be handled.
