Plane Jane joins Project Runway Season 22 cast of 22 designers

Plane Jane is joining project runway season 22, and the crossover cast now includes a contestant from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16. The new lineup has 22 designers, the biggest cast in the show’s history, with the season set to open with two episodes on July 9.

Plane Jane and Q join

Plane Jane is paired in the cast with Robert Crone, known as Q, while Project Runway alum Joseph McRae is also back and Jennifer Daniels moves from modeling to competition after appearing in four seasons as a Project Runway model. The season is leaning hard into recognizable TV names, which gives the competition a built-in audience before a stitch hits the runway.

Heidi Klum returns to host

Heidi Klum will host Season 22, with Law Roach and Nina Garcia returning as judges and Christian Siriano back as mentor to the designers. That mix keeps the series’ core structure intact even as the cast expands to 22 names, the largest field the show has ever assembled.

July 9 on Freeform

Season 22 premieres on Freeform on July 9 with two episodes, then streams on Hulu and Disney+ the following day. The schedule gives viewers a same-weekend launch on cable and a next-day streaming option, which should make this crossover-heavy cast easier to track for both live viewers and on-demand audiences.

Last year, Utica Queen became the first Drag Race contestant to cross over to Project Runway, so Plane Jane’s arrival turns a one-off experiment into a repeat booking. With 22 designers and familiar names spread across the cast, the season is being sold as a larger, more competitive rollout rather than a standard return.
