Kiernan Dewsbury-hall Denies Ireland Switch After England Snub
kiernan dewsbury-hall has shot down claims that he is ready to pledge his international allegiance to the Republic of Ireland. The Everton midfielder said the report was not true and repeated that England is always the dream. That leaves his international future where it has sat for months: open, but leaning hard toward England.
Dewsbury-Hall on X
“?? Just not true. Massive respect to Ireland as I’ve previously stated, but I’m English & England is always the dream,” Dewsbury-Hall wrote on X after the claim surfaced. It was a direct rejection, not a carefully worded dodge.
He has been linked with Ireland because he remains eligible through his family heritage, and because he has not been capped by England at any level. The gap between eligibility and selection has kept both nations in the frame, but his own words have repeatedly pointed one way.
England Missed Out
In October 2025, he told The Times that playing for England would be the proudest moment of his life. He also said Ireland had been trying to get him to play for them for about five years, while making clear he wanted to keep concentrating on his football and let events take their course.
That stance has been tested by selection decisions. Thomas Tuchel overlooked him for England’s World Cup squad this summer, and he was also omitted from England’s expanded 35-player group in March, even as James Garner made his England debut in that camp.
Everton Form Keeps Him Visible
The Ireland speculation has not come out of nowhere. Dewsbury-Hall delivered eight Premier League goals and four assists in his debut season at Everton, a return that kept his name in the conversation even without an England cap. He is 27, productive, and still eligible for two paths.
For now, though, his own public message is the clearest one in this story. He has rejected the Ireland switch and put England back at the center of the discussion, which means any future move will have to start with the same player who said England is always the dream.
