Two people broke into a Camaro in elk grove village early Wednesday morning, but they ran when the homeowner banged on a window from inside the house. Police in northwest suburban Elk Grove Village responded at 4:52 a.m. to a disturbance in the 200 block of Wildwood Road after a caller reported someone had broken into a car parked in the driveway.

The homeowner said surveillance video shows two people wearing hoodies walking toward the Camaro, breaking the window and then running away on foot after they were confronted. The suspects broke a window on the car but did not get inside it or steal it.
The homeowner also said police recovered fingerprints as evidence in the case. That gives investigators a physical lead from the morning break-in, even as the suspects got away on foot.
Camaro thefts in Elk Grove Village
The homeowner said vehicle thefts and break-ins have increased in Elk Grove Village, especially involving Camaros. He pointed to recent thefts from a dealership showroom at 175 North Arlington Heights Road and said one of his neighbors had a vehicle repeatedly targeted before it was eventually stolen from the driveway.
Police said they are looking into whether the Wednesday morning incident reflects a broader increase in burglary activity in Elk Grove Village. For residents parking a Camaro outside, the practical takeaway is plain: the break-in happened fast, the suspects left on foot, and police are treating the case as part of a wider pattern they are still examining.
