Eric Wagaman Joins Mets Roster After .372 Syracuse Stretch

eric wagaman is back on a big league roster after the Mets selected the infielder and shuffled three other spots on the same move day. He arrives after a.372/.462/.581 stretch in Syracuse, giving him another chance with the club after clearing waivers and going back to the minors.

Wagaman’s Syracuse line

The numbers were hard to ignore:.372 batting average,.462 on-base percentage and.581 slugging percentage in 13 games, plus 52 plate appearances. Wagaman also posted a.424 batting average on balls in play during that run, a strong burst that followed the Mets’ decision to claim him last month and option him to the minors.

That production stands out against his broader minor league track record. From 2022 to 2024, he hit.276/.348/.473 with a 131 wRC+ in 897 plate appearances in the minors, while his major league opportunities have produced a.250/.293/.381 line and an 85 wRC+.

Minter and Young return

The Mets also reinstated left-hander A.J. Minter from the 60-day injured list and infielder/outfielder Jared Young from the 10-day injured list. Minter’s return comes after a two-year, $22 million deal going into the 2025 season, 11 innings last year before a lat strain ended his season, and a 2026 ramp-up that started behind the other pitchers.

His road back included a rehab assignment in April before left hip discomfort slowed him down. Brooks Raley has handled the primary lefty relief role this season, with Sean Manaea also in the bullpen but mostly used as a bulk reliever.

Taylor moves to injured list

To make the roster math work, the Mets placed outfielder Tyrone Taylor on the 10-day injured list with a right hip flexor strain and optioned right-hander Jonathan Pintaro and outfielder Nick Morabito. The club said a corresponding move to open another 40-man roster spot would be announced before game time, and the roster change arrives with the Mets at 22-32 and 7.5 games back of a playoff spot.

One more 40-man move followed later in the day when Luis Robert Jr. was transferred to the 60-day injured list after landing on the injured list in late April with a lumbar disc herniation. He was not eligible to return until late June, and his current status was listed as unknown.
