Heamasi Makasini Wests Tigers Contract Extends to 2029
Heamasi Makasini Wests Tigers contract runs through the end of the 2029 NRL season after the club added two years to his existing deal. The 18-year-old outside back had been tied to the Tigers until 2027, and the extension keeps one of their youngest first-grade prospects inside the system for the long term.
Makasini Stays Through 2029
Makasini made his NRL debut in Round 27 of 2025 against the Gold Coast Titans and scored a try on that night, a debut that quickly marked him out as more than a depth option. He then followed it with strong showings in the 2026 Witzer Pre-season Challenge, carrying that momentum into the opening stretch of the new season.
He also missed several weeks with a bone bruising foot injury before being set to return against the Canterbury Bulldogs this weekend. That run of games and setbacks gives the extension a sharper edge: the Tigers are not just keeping a teenager with promise, they are committing to a player who has already been tested at NRL level.
Benji Marshall Backing
Benji Marshall said Makasini is already part of the club’s immediate plans. “Heamasi is a special talent who we feel is a big part of our future, and we're looking forward to seeing him develop here.”
Marshall also pointed to the position work that has pushed him into first-grade consideration. “He's done it playing at centre – one of the hardest positions to defend on the field – and showed his quality at just 18-years-old.”
Homegrown Tigers Pathway
Makasini said the move fits with where he has come from and where he wants to go. “I love playing here, and I'm loving being a part of what we're building. It's where I've played all my junior footy, and I want to be a part of bringing the Club success.”
He added: “I'm grateful to Benji, the boys and the whole Tigers family for everything they've done for me so far, and I'm so happy to be staying here for another two seasons.” Marshall said he and the club are happy to have Makasini and his family with them until 2029, and the extension locks in an 18-year-old who came right through the Wests Tigers system at a point when the club has leaned on homegrown talent to build its next core.
