Robert Macintyre Watches Koepka Miss Memorial Qualification
Brooks Koepka withdrew from the Charles Schwab Challenge, and robert macintyre’s name sits in the same Fort Worth field after a key absence reshaped the week. The move also ended Koepka’s chance to qualify for next week’s Signature Event at the Memorial Tournament.
Koepka Leaves Fort Worth
Koepka, a five-time major champion, needed a strong finish at Colonial Country Club to secure a berth at The Memorial Tournament. Instead, he stepped out of this week’s event in Fort Worth, Texas, and lost the path that remained open to him for the Signature Event.
No official reason was given for his withdrawal. Koepka had re-joined the PGA Tour at the start of the year from LIV Golf, and he ended his week at TPC Craig Ranch on 18 under and tied for 14th place.
Colonial’s Tight Window
The Charles Schwab Challenge first was played in 1946 and will be held at Colonial Country Club for the 80th time this year. The course will play to 7,289 yards with a par 70 setup, and seven pros share the course record of 61.
Kevin Na was the last player to shoot 61 at Colonial, doing it in 2018. Zach Johnson’s 2010 win came with a 72-hole score of 21-under par, a standard that shows how low the winning number can get when Colonial gives up scoring chances.
Clark Also Withdraws
Wyndham Clark also withdrew from the Charles Schwab Challenge this week after carding a final-round 60 on Sunday to beat Si Woo Kim by three shots at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. That leaves another notable name out of Fort Worth and changes the look of the field for a tournament that has long carried weight on the PGA Tour schedule.
Ben Hogan won the event five times, the most of any player, and Annika Sörenstam became the first female golfer to compete in a PGA Tour event at the 2003 Charles Schwab Challenge. Ben Griffin arrives as the defending player seeking back-to-back titles, while Thursday’s live coverage is scheduled from 1pm on Sky Sports+.
