Blue Jays Matt Bowman Signing Adds 34-Year-Old Reliever on Minors Deal

The blue jays matt bowman signing gives Toronto a 34-year-old reliever on a minor league deal after his release from the Minnesota Twins earlier this month. Matt Bowman brings recent Triple-A success and major-league innings from 2025.

Bowman Joins Toronto

The Blue Jays signed pitcher Matt Bowman to a minor league deal, adding another arm with recent big-league experience to the organization. The move follows his release from the Twins after he exercised an opt-out clause in his deal with that club earlier this month.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported the signing: “Matt Bowman signs with Jays. Minors deal.”

St. Paul Saints Numbers

Bowman’s strongest recent run came with the St. Paul Saints, where he posted a 1.69 ERA in 21.1 innings this season. The Saints are the Twins’ Triple-A affiliate, so Toronto is getting a pitcher who was already working at a level just one step from the majors.

That performance stands out against his last major-league stint. In 2025 with the Baltimore Orioles, Bowman went 0-1 with a 6.20 ERA in 24.2 innings over 20 games.

Bowman’s MLB Path

Bowman has also spent time with the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Seattle Mariners and Twins. He is from Chevy Chase, Maryland, and the Blue Jays now add that experience to a bullpen mix that can move him between the minors and the majors as needed.

For Toronto, the immediate value is straightforward: a low-cost minor league signing with a reliever who has 20 games of major-league work this year and a stronger ERA in Triple-A. That gives the Blue Jays another depth option if they need innings soon.
