Adam Azim Targets Sixth Straight Knockout Against Steve Claggett
adam azim returns on Saturday night against Steve Claggett with a sixth straight knockout in sight, and the bout is being treated as a real step up for the unbeaten boxer. Azim enters with a 14-fight professional record and world number 7 rankings with both the IBF and WBO.
Azim and Claggett in London
Azim headlines a BOXXER card at the OVO Arena in London on Saturday, May 30, with the fight broadcast live on BBC2. Joel Kodua and Will Harrison are also set to compete for the English welterweight title on the undercard.
Claggett brings 50 professional fights into the matchup. Two years ago, he went the distance with Teofimo Lopez when challenging for the WBO world title, which gives this bout a different edge from Azim’s previous run of stoppages.
Estephan on Claggett
Camille Estephan framed Claggett as the opponent most likely to answer the question around Azim’s level. “We understand that Adam Azim is a very, very promising, good fighter, a young fighter. We have done a lot of homework on him, but I think that it is a really big test for Adam. Steve Claggett will now be the measuring stick that will show whether Adam Azim is for real and if, at the highest level, he is ready.”
Estephan added that Claggett has the tools to make the night longer than Azim’s recent appearances. “When you go into a fight with Steve Claggett, they say that he has the lungs of two great marathons, so he is going to have the energy and he is going to have the gas tank to really test Adam. I think it is going to be an amazing fight and I can’t wait to watch it.”
The pressure point is simple. Azim has the unbeaten record and the run of knockouts; Claggett has the rounds, the title challenge against Lopez and enough durability to extend the test. If Azim gets another stoppage, he strengthens the case that he belongs in the title conversation rather than just near it.
