Alexander Briedl Set for Aberdeen Two-Year Deal

alexander briedl is set to join Aberdeen this summer on a two-year contract when his current deal expires. The move still needs international clearance and a UK visa, but the Dons have already lined up a 24-year-old midfielder who they believe fits the midfield work they want.

Briedl and Aberdeen

Briedl said the move moved quickly once Aberdeen’s interest reached him two or three weeks ago. He called Aberdeen one of the biggest clubs in Scotland and said he has watched some games to understand the physical demands he will face.

“It feels amazing to be signing for Aberdeen.”

He added: “Everything happened very fast after I heard about the interest about two or three weeks ago. Of course, I knew about Aberdeen because they are one of the biggest Club’s in Scotland.”

The Austrian midfielder said he is looking forward to challenging himself in a new league and described his game in direct terms. “I’ve watched some games; I know it’s physical here in Scotland and I am looking forward to challenging myself in a new league. I would say that I am good with the ball, technical player who can also press and win the ball.”

Robinson’s midfield plan

Stephen Robinson said Aberdeen had been tracking Briedl closely and believes the former Austria Under-21 international fits the type of midfielder the club is seeking. Robinson also said his experience in the Austrian league should translate well to Aberdeen and to the way the side wants to play.

“We’re really pleased to bring Alex to the Club. He’s a player we’ve been tracking closely, and he brings many of the qualities we’re looking for in midfield. We believe his experience in the Austrian league will be a good fit for not only our league but also how we want to play here at Aberdeen.”

Briedl’s route to Pittodrie has been built over several steps, starting in the FC Red Bull Salzburg youth system before senior spells at FC Leifering, SV Horn and Blau-Weiss Linz. He moved to Blau-Weiss Linz in 2020 and earned praise there for versatility and consistency while establishing himself as an energetic and influential defensive midfielder in Austria.

Pittodrie arrival

Briedl said the manager welcomed him directly and outlined his vision for the club, and that message shaped his decision. He also said he wants to help the team reach its goals and is looking forward to meeting the fans at Pittodrie.

“The manager directly welcomed me, and he told me about his vision for the Club. I want to help the team reach our goals.”

“I know the fans are very passionate here and I am looking forward to meeting them soon at Pittodrie”

For Aberdeen, the deal adds a 24-year-old defensive midfielder with senior experience in Austria to a summer rebuild that is already taking shape. The paperwork still has to clear the final hurdles, but the club has moved early on a player it believes can match the demands of Robinson’s midfield.
