Gus Scott-Morriss Joins Oldham Athletic on Two-Year Deal
Oldham Athletic have signed Southend United wing-back Gus Scott-Morriss on a two-year deal. The 29-year-old arrives with an option for a further year after Oldham finished 10th in 2025-26, 10 points outside the play-off places in their first season back in the Football League.
Scott-Morriss Brings Southend Numbers
Scott-Morriss leaves Southend with a record that points to regular end product from wide areas. He scored 45 goals in 162 National League appearances for the club, and earlier this month he scored the winning penalty as Southend beat Wealdstone in the FA Trophy final at Wembley.
He described the move in direct terms. “I'll bring lots of energy, hopefully lots of output and I'll try to get a few goals and assists - but I'm a team player, I want to win,” he said.
Mellon’s Promotion Push
The transfer fits Oldham’s attempt to move closer to the teams above them after a mid-table return to the league game. A first season back in the Football League ended with them 10th, and the gap to the play-off positions was 10 points.
Scott-Morriss also framed the move around that target. “We want to get out of this division, the gaffer [Micky Mellon] made it clear to me that is what we want to do,” he said.
Oldham’s Option Year
The deal includes an option for a further year, though Oldham have not revealed whether that option sits with the club or with the player. For now, the signing gives Mellon a wing-back who has spent his entire career to date in non-league football and now follows Southend’s Wembley final high with a move aimed at a higher finish at Boundary Park.
