Timothy Chandler Pleads Guilty After Hundreds of Mail Pieces Found — Postal Worker

Timothy Chandler, a postal worker for the U.S. Postal Service, pleaded guilty to delay or destruction of the mail after authorities found hundreds of pieces of undelivered mail in his apartment. A federal judge set sentencing for Aug. 31, and Chandler faces up to five years in prison.

Robertsdale Police Complaint

Robertsdale police responded last November to a complaint about a large amount of undelivered mail in an apartment recently rented to Chandler. Officers said the volume was enough to fill about eight post office bins.

The apartment held mail in several places when officers searched it: on the living room floor, under chair cushions, in the stove, on top of cabinets and inside the refrigerator. More mail was in trash bags, and several greeting cards sent through the mail had been opened.

Chandler's Guilty Plea

Chandler had a delivery route that included homes and businesses, according to the case facts. He pleaded guilty to delay or destruction of the mail, tying the recovered items to the route he was assigned to serve.

Prosecutors have agreed to recommend leniency, which leaves the Aug. 31 sentencing as the point when the court will decide his punishment within the five-year maximum.
