Tilly Corteen-Coleman Debuts as India Women Vs England Women Starts in Chelmsford
India women vs England women began at 6.30pm BST in Chelmsford with Tilly Corteen-Coleman making her T20I debut. England and India both changed their XIs for the first women’s T20 international, a selection move that shows how much weight this three-match series carries before the T20 World Cup.
Tilly Corteen-Coleman Enters England XI
England made two changes from Monday’s series decider against New Zealand. Lauren Bell returned, Linsey Smith was rested and Maia Bouchier was omitted, leaving Corteen-Coleman to step in for her first appearance at this level.
That is the clearest sign of where England are in the build-up. Charlotte Edwards’ side came into this series after a 2-1 win over New Zealand, and by the time it ends at Taunton on Tuesday, Edwards and Amol Muzumdar should know their XIs to start the World Cup.
India Recall Mandhana, Bhatia, Sharma
India made three changes from their most recent T20I, the defeat to South Africa at Benoni in April. Smriti Mandhana, Yastika Bhatia and Nandni Sharma came in, while Anushka Sharma, Harmanpreet Kaur and Renuka Singh were left out.
Mandhana called incorrectly at the toss and Charlie Dean put India into the bat. Mandhana later said, “Harmanpreet Kaur is being rested today.”
World Cup Places On The Line
This series sits inside a larger selection picture for both teams. India have won T20 series in both England and Australia in the last 12 months, but they also go into a World Cup group that includes Australia and South Africa, and South Africa beat them 4-1 in a recent T20 series.
Nine of India’s squad started the ODI World Cup final win over South Africa in November. That gives Muzumdar a familiar core to work with, but the changes in Chelmsford show neither side is waiting until the tournament to settle the order of business. By Tuesday, both camps should have a sharper read on who is ready to carry their World Cup plans forward.
