Jason Williams Daughter Fuels Florida Split After Texas Tech Series

Jason Williams says his jason williams daughter is at the center of why he is cutting ties with Florida athletics after the weekend super regional controversy. The former Gators point guard said Tuesday he is done backing the program after Florida’s series against Texas Tech.

Jason Williams on Wake Up Barstool

Williams made the remarks on Wake Up Barstool, where Big Cat called him a Gator legend and he answered, “Was, was.” That exchange set up a sharp turn from one of Florida’s former stars, who said the only time he will step foot on Gainesville’s campus again is if his daughter plays softball there again.

His comments came after Florida and Texas Tech played a three-game super regional that brought his daughter Mia Williams into the center of the story. Mia, a junior second baseman at Texas Tech, was part of a series that ended with Florida losing 16-7 on Sunday.

Florida, Texas Tech, and the fallout

The tension around the matchup went beyond the scoreboard. A Florida fan allegedly struck Williams’s other daughter, Nina Williams, with a handheld fan in the series opener, and Florida did not shake hands with Texas Tech after Sunday’s loss.

Williams posted his anger online after that finale, writing, “F— FLorida,” in an Instagram comment. Two days later, he repeated the break in stronger terms on Tuesday, separating his support for the school from what happened in the series.

Williams and Florida history

The split lands hard because Williams is not just any former player. He played for Florida in the 1997-98 season after sitting out a year, appeared in 20 games, started 17, and averaged 17 points and 6 assists per game before declaring for the 1998 NBA Draft.

Sacramento picked him seventh overall, and he went on to win an NBA championship with Miami during a 12-year career. That history makes his break with Florida more than a passing reaction; it closes the door on a relationship that had once connected a former Gators guard to the school and now leaves only one exception in his own words: if Mia Williams ever plays softball there.
