Morris Day Rejects Freedom 250 Listing for Great American State Fair Lineup
The great american state fair lineup lost two of its listed acts after Milli Vanilli and Morris Day said they will not appear at Freedom 250’s Washington, D.C., shows. The dispute landed days after the first wave of performers was announced for the National Mall event, putting the booking process itself at the center of the story.
Milli Vanilli’s name surprised Jodie Rocco
Jodie Rocco said she and her sister Linda Rocco were not asked to take part. “My sister and I were shocked to see our name, 'Milli Vanilli', as one of the performers,” she told The in an email, giving the clearest sign that the listing was news to the group rather than a negotiated appearance.
Milli Vanilli and Young MC had been slated for an I Love the 90s concert on June 26, while Morris Day was listed for June 27. The Great American State Fair is scheduled to run from June 25 to July 10 on Washington’s National Mall, so the pulled names affect the event’s opening stretch rather than a late-program change.
Young MC and Morris Day push back
Young MC wrote on Instagram that “The artists were never told about any political involvement with the event.” He added that he hoped to “perform in D.C. in the near future at an event that is not so politically charged.” That leaves the June 26 slot with at least one confirmed holdover from the original 90s bill, since Vanilla Ice is still expected to appear.
Morris Day posted on Instagram that “Contrary to rumor, Morris Day & The Time will not be performing at the 'GREAT AMERICAN STATE FAIR.” A representative for Vanilla Ice took the opposite line in an email to the, saying, “He is proud to help celebrate America's 250th Anniversary!” and “Everyone is welcome to attend and celebrate USA's Birthday and our Freedom!”
Freedom 250 under pressure
Freedom 250 was launched by President Donald Trump late last year, and Trump appointed Keith Krach as the organization’s CEO. That political link is now part of the booking dispute, because Young MC said the artists were never told about it before the listing went public.
The practical read for attendees is simple: the event still runs June 25 to July 10, but the first wave of performers is already unstable. For Freedom 250, the immediate task is to stabilize the announced bill before the National Mall dates arrive; for anyone planning around the show, the lineup can no longer be treated as settled.
