Stephanie Pratt Reverses Course on Spencer Pratt's LA Bid

stephanie pratt now supports Spencer Pratt's campaign for Los Angeles mayor after publicly opposing it in February. Her reversal gives his independent run a family endorsement after she once said voting for him was “a vote for stupidity.”

February Posts in X

In February, she wrote in since-deleted X posts, “Spencer has done great work for the palisades. But LA does not need another unqualified and inexperienced mayor. A vote for him is a vote for stupidity.” She added, “He's just trying to stay famous and sell his memoir don't be fooled.”

She also wrote, “I'm worried about LA. I have no problem playing government but our city needs help,” and said, “Everyone saying I should support him no matter what. Sorry he beat me up when I was 18 & put me in the hospital. So no he doesn’t belong in the government. Run the palisades all you want not LA,” before ending with, “Leopards never change their spots. Stay in the palisades Spencer.”

Spencer's January launch

Spencer launched his candidacy in January on the one-year anniversary of losing his home in the Palisades Fire. He is running as an independent candidate, and polling has shown him trailing Democratic incumbent Karen Bass by single digits.

Why the reversal lands

Stephanie told Vanity Fair in an email tied to a profile on him, “I admit I was the first person to tell people that they were idiots if they voted for my brother,” and followed with, “Wow, was I wrong. He has spent every day since the fires finding the facts, the mistakes, the negligence, and uncovering the truth that they never wanted us to know.”

Gerry Baker and Yemisi Egbewole have discussed Spencer's strides in the race, but Stephanie's change is the more unusual development: a sibling who once dismissed the campaign now backing it while the race still sits within single digits. For a candidate trying to break through as an independent, that kind of public turn is fuel, even if the mayoral contest still belongs to Bass and the rest of the field.
