Canada blanks United States 4-0, sets Finland matchup — Iihf World Championship Semi-finals
Canada’s 4-0 win over the United States sent it into the iihf world championship semi-finals, and the next stop is Finland on Saturday. Jet Greaves stopped all 34 shots as Canada kept the defending champions off the board and moved one win from the gold-medal game.
Greaves shuts the door
Greaves handled every shot he faced in the quarter-final, giving Canada the clean sheet it needed after a 6-1-0-0 round robin. Canada’s only blemish before the knockout round was an overtime victory over Norway, and the result against the United States kept that run intact.
Macklin Celebrini and Dylan Holloway supplied the first two goals, then Connor Brown and Sidney Crosby added empty-net scores to finish it. John Tavares said, "I liked our start tonight more than what we’ve been doing through the course of the tournament" and called it "a much more consistent 60 minutes."
Finland waits in Saturday
Finland reached the same stage with a 4-1 quarter-final win over Czechia on Thursday. Sakari Manninen and Lenni Hameenaho each had a goal and an assist in that game, and Finland now brings a 6-0-0-1 record into Saturday’s semifinal.
The matchup carries two different recent histories. Canada is trying to return to the championship game for the first time since 2023, while Finland’s last appearance in the title game came in 2025.
Barkov and Crosby
Finland’s attack has been driven by Jesse Puljujarvi, who has four goals and nine points in eight games, and Aleksandar Barkov, who has two goals and nine points in eight games. Barkov is playing his first hockey of the 2025-26 hockey calendar after missing the entire NHL season while recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee.
Canada has its own production at the top of the lineup. Celebrini has six goals and 12 points in eight games, Crosby has one goal and 10 points, and Ryan O’Reilly has five goals and eight points in eight games, giving Canada three different scoring lanes as it chases a place in the gold-medal game.
The semifinal will be shown live Saturday at 1:45 p.m. ET and 10:45 a.m. PT on TSN4, TSN.ca, and the TSN App. The winner moves within one game of the championship.
