Barcelona Sign Gordon From Newcastle for Undisclosed Fee
Barcelona have signed gordon from Newcastle United for a significant undisclosed fee, ending his three-and-a-half-year spell in England. Anthony Gordon leaves after 152 appearances and 39 goals across all competitions, and Newcastle lose a forward who became a senior England international on Tyneside.
Gordon Leaves Newcastle Behind
Gordon joined Newcastle from Everton in January 2023 and quickly became central to the club’s progress. He helped them qualify for the UEFA Champions League in his debut season, then followed that with 11 goals in 35 Premier League appearances in the next campaign.
His final season was his most productive. Gordon finished as Newcastle’s top scorer in all competitions with 17 goals, including ten in Europe, as the club pushed through a demanding schedule at home and abroad.
Barcelona Add Another Forward
The move gives Barcelona a player who already carries senior international experience. Gordon earned his England call-up for the March friendlies, made his debut at Wembley against Brazil in March, and later represented England at Euro 2024.
Newcastle’s official line made clear how central he had become before the transfer. Eddie Howe said Gordon developed into an England international during his time at the club, while Ross Wilson said there had been interest from a number of Europe’s leading clubs over a period of time.
Gordon also played a major role in Newcastle’s run to the 2025 Carabao Cup final, appearing in every game on the road to Wembley and scoring in both legs of the semi-final victory over Arsenal. That run ended with the club’s 70-year wait, and his exit removes one of the main attacking outlets from a side that had leaned on him in decisive matches.
For Newcastle, the fee is undisclosed but the departure is not. Gordon said he owed the club a lot and described it as a place that gave him belonging and identity, closing a spell that started with promise and ended with a top-scorer finish and a transfer to Barcelona.
