Napoleon Solo Preakness Sale Sends Winner to ESPOIR USA, Inc.
Napoleon Solo Preakness sale changed ownership, but the GI Preakness Stakes winner stayed on course for the GI Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park on July 18. The two-time Grade I winner was sold to ESPOIR USA, Inc. and will remain with trainer Chad Summers.
Chad Summers Keeps Napoleon Solo
Summers said the horse will keep racing for the new owner and still points to the Haskell. “Very appreciative of everything that Al did to get us to this point. It's going to feel awkward putting different blinkers and different silks on him, but Napoleon's still Napoleon and we're excited to make him champion 3-year-old at the end of the year, and they can hold the trophy up together,” he said. He added, “I'm appreciative of the new owner allowing us to keep the horse.”
ESPOIR USA, Inc. Takes Over
Before the sale, Napoleon Solo had belonged to Al Gold's Gold Square LLC. The new ownership does not change the immediate racing plan, and the colt remains scheduled for Monmouth Park on July 18. The switch does, however, move him into a different set of blinkers and silks for the rest of this campaign.
Lane's End Plan for 2026
The horse's new connections plan to keep him racing next year as a 4-year-old before he retires to Lane's End. Bloodstock agent David Ingordo said that retirement destination was part of the plan. For now, the focus stays on the Haskell and on keeping a two-time Grade I winner in the same barn through the end of his 3-year-old season.
