Texas Tech Rolls 8-0 Win — Texas Vs Mississippi State Softball
Texas Tech turned texas vs mississippi state softball into an 8-0 run-rule win Thursday at Devon Park, finishing the opener with a fast start and a short afternoon. The Red Raiders stayed in the winner's bracket at the Women's College World Series, while Mississippi State dropped into Friday's elimination game against Texas.
Canady Sets The Tone
NiJaree Canady handled the first four innings and did not allow a run. She gave up two hits, struck out three and picked up the win as Texas Tech moved to 58-7.
Jackie Lis gave her an early cushion. After Mia Williams was hit by a pitch to lead off the first inning, Lis followed with a two-run home run, her 21st of the season, and finished with three RBI. Mihyia Davis went 2-for-3, while Williams and Lauren Allred each added doubles.
Texas Tech's First-Inning Burst
The opening frame set the pace. Gerry Glasco said, “I thought NiJa came out, the very first inning and set the tone,” and added, “Gave us four innings with two hits. I just thought she was fantastic, as she always is in Oklahoma City. I was proud of KT when we brought her in. It was a smooth turnover and transition. I thought she did great.”
Kaitlyn Terry finished the shutout with one scoreless inning of relief. Texas Tech now has another clean path through the bracket, and the win also extended Canady's season line to 26-6 with 101-23 career record and 1,103 strikeouts.
Mississippi State Faces Texas
Mississippi State ended at 43-20 and must regroup quickly. It will meet Texas on Friday in an elimination game, while Texas Tech gets Tennessee at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Glasco said, “You want to stay in that winner's bracket,” then added, “As long as you can win, it gets a day of rest. It makes the pace of the tournament where the kids can really enjoy it. We want to just keep trying to play every other day, every other day. It gives you a lot of time to prepare. It's really important that we keep winning. It eliminates playing as many innings when you're in the winner's bracket, obviously.”
