Mychal Ryals Faces Allegations After 11U Dugout Throw — Baseball Coach

An Oklahoma baseball coach was accused of directing a 70mph pitch into an opposing dugout during a Kansas City USSSA tournament on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Nebraska coach Brandon Magni said the incident involved Mychal Ryals and his 11U team, then spilled into a dispute over whether the game should have ended there.

Magni wrote that Ryals told the pitcher to throw at Easton’s head while the Nebraska batter was up. After Easton stepped out and told the umpire, Magni said the coach changed course and told the pitcher to throw it at the dugout instead, where the ball hit one of his players.

Brandon Magni’s account

“Today all of my boys learned a life lesson. While Easton was up to bat against Oklahoma Eleven, 11us coach- Mychal Ryals, told their pitcher to throw at Easton’s head. After Easton stepped out and told the umpire the coach said never mind throw it at their dugout instead. A 70mph fastball thrown into my dugout hitting one of my players,” Magni posted on his personal Facebook.

He said the pitcher was kicked out of the game, but the player stayed in the dugout and the coach was not removed from the complex. Magni also said that when he pleaded for the Oklahoma team to be issued a forfeit, he was told his team could forfeit or he could call the police.

Kansas City USSSA tournament

The game took place at a Kansas City USSSA tournament during Memorial Day weekend, which put a youth baseball dispute in front of a wider audience fast. A mother of a Nebraska boy later said on Instagram that the team was cheering for their teammate and excited to be up in a tight game.

said there was no debating that a ball was thrown at a dugout, but whether the boy was ordered to do it was still in question. That leaves the coach’s role at the center of the incident, while the players were still left to finish the game and shake hands afterward.

“DO BETTER USSSA BASEBALL!!!! At the end of the game we shook their hands and were the better men/boys. The boys learned you can’t control what others do to you but you can control what your response can be. Ours was to use this as fire & close out the game,” Magni wrote.
