Antonio Mohamed Sets 80 Percent Toluca Vs Tigres Stay Chance

Toluca vs Tigres arrives with Antonio Mohamed's future hanging on one postmatch conversation. He said he will sit down with Toluca's directiva after Saturday's Concacaf Champions Cup final to decide whether he stays or goes, tying his continuity to the club's squad plan for the next semester.

Mohamed and Toluca's directiva

“Hay charla con la directiva (después del partido) y el entrenador de cómo vamos a ser el semestre que viene, del tema del planteamiento del plantel.” Mohamed said that before the final, making clear that the result at Estadio Nemesio Diez is only part of the decision. The other part is whether he and the club line up on how the roster should look after Saturday, May 30.

He put his options in simple terms: stay if there is agreement, or go home and rest if there is not. “Puede haber cosas en que nos pongamos de acuerdo, el futbol es así, si yo no me pongo de acuerdo me voy a mi casa a descansar y si nos ponemos de acuerdo me quedo aquí en el club,” he said.

Plan A and Plan B

Mohamed was even more direct when he framed the choice as two paths only. “No hay otro plan, hay plan A y B, me voy a mi casa a descansar o me quedo aquí, 80 por ciento que me quedo acá y 20 por ciento que me voy.”

That split gives Toluca a working read on where things stand before the final kicks off. It also puts his next step in the club's hands, since the coach linked his stay to an agreement on the way the team will be built for the next semester. If there is no match on that plan, he said he would head home instead.

Three titles in Toluca

The stakes are higher because Mohamed has already delivered three titles since arriving on Toluca's bench. He won a bicampeonato of Liga MX with the club and added a Campeón de Campeones against América, which is why Saturday's final also carries weight for the people inside the dressing room.

He is chasing his first international title on Saturday, May 30, in the Concacaf Champions Cup 2026 final against Tigres at Estadio Nemesio Diez. For Toluca, that makes the match about more than one trophy. It also sits at the center of whether the coach who has already won three times for the club stays for the next semester or walks away after the final whistle.
