Kanye West and Travis Scott Concert Cancellations Hit Reggio Emilia

The concert dates for Kanye West and Travis Scott at the Rcf Arena in Reggio Emilia on 17 and 18 July were officially cancelled. The decision removes two back-to-back Pulse of Gaia Festival events from a venue built for 103,000 spectators.

Salvatore Angieri, the city’s prefect, ordered the cancellation on grounds of public order and safety after the provincial committee met on 25 May. Authorities said the expected crowd within twenty-four hours raised the risk of counter-protests.

Pulse of Gaia at Rcf Arena

The cancellation lands on a festival that had already been under strain in Emilia-Romagna. Unveiled in February as a highly ambitious project for Italy and first called the Hellwatt Festival, it later became Pulse of Gaia, while Victor Yari Milani was removed from his post as artistic director at the beginning of May after accusations of slapdash management, contradictory communication on ticket sales and a sharp rise in projected costs.

That history matters because the July shows were not isolated bookings. Other international artists still listed for the festival include Offset, Ice Spice, Ty Dolla, Wiz Khalifa, The Chainsmokers, Rita Ora, Afrojack, Swedish House Mafia and Tyla, and Tyla was the only performer confirmed on the date when Travis Scott was due to appear.

Wider pressure on West

The Reggio Emilia cancellation also adds to a run of axed dates on Kanye West’s European tour. Shows previously announced in France and Poland were scrapped after his past statements, while French interior minister Laurent Nuñez had already made clear his determination to ban the 11 June concert in Marseille.

Italy had its own political pressure points before this decision. Carlo Calenda tabled a parliamentary question asking the interior and foreign ministers to refuse West a visa because of his antisemitic views, and the British government announced an entry ban on 7 April that blocked a series of concerts planned for mid-July.

What ticket holders face

For ticket holders, the practical consequence is simple: the two scheduled July concerts are off the calendar, and the festival’s advertised lineup no longer includes West or Scott for those dates. The remaining question is how the festival will be reorganized around the artists still listed, because the cancellation stripped out the two biggest draw names from the July schedule.
