Jurgen Klopp Becomes Al-Ittihad's Preferred Target for 2024
Al-Ittihad have made jurgen klopp their preferred candidate to replace Sergio Conceicao, but the pursuit already has a hard stop. Marc Kosicke says there is no possibility for Klopp to manage the Saudi Pro League club this year.
Al-Ittihad and Klopp
The club reportedly elevated Klopp to the top of its search after Conceicao's departure, putting a 58-year-old coach with one of the sport's strongest recent records at the center of its next move. Klopp stepped away from coaching in 2024 after a nine-year spell at Liverpool, where he won every major honour available, including the Premier League and the Champions League.
That profile explains why he stands out for Al-Ittihad. He is not just a former elite manager; he is a coach who left Liverpool with every major domestic and European prize on his resume, and he is now working in a different role with Red Bull.
Marc Kosicke's deadline
Kosicke's response narrows the club's options immediately. “There is no possibility for Klopp to manage Al-Ittihad this year.”
Klopp has also kept speculation alive without committing to a return. “For my age I'm quite advanced in life, but as a coach I'm not completely finished,” he said. “I haven't reached retirement age.” He added, “Who knows what will happen in the coming years? But there's nothing planned.”
Klopp's next move
Klopp has repeatedly played down links to high-profile vacancies, including a previous wave of speculation around Real Madrid. “Right now I'm not thinking about that, luckily there's no reason to,” he said.
For Al-Ittihad, that leaves a search built around a name they value most, but without a path to get him in this year. The club can keep Klopp as its preferred target, yet the calendar and his representative's stance force the next decision onto other options.
